We are pleased to announce the publication of a new scientific article entitled "Assessment of the Sustainability of Date Palm Farms in the Oued‑Righ Valley, Southeast Algeria", authored by our colleagues Lounes Merrouchi and Haou Amrouni Sais, in the journal Agricultura Tropica et Subtropica.
This study evaluates the sustainability of date palm farms in the Oued-Righ Valley using the IDEA (Indicateur de Durabilité des Exploitations Agricoles) method. A total of 19 farmers participated in the survey through a structured questionnaire. The analysis, conducted with IBM SPSS Statistics (v.27), highlighted key sustainability trends in three domains: agro-ecological, socio-territorial, and economic.
Findings reveal that only three farms achieved scores above 50/100 across all three sustainability dimensions. While many farms showed strong performance in agro-ecological and economic aspects, socio-territorial factors emerged as a limiting component. The study underscores the need to enhance product and territorial quality, ethical practices, human development, and employment opportunities to improve the overall sustainability of date palm farming in the region.
