From January 26 to 29, 2025, a specialized training session was held in Algiers, bringing together 13 senior agronomic and hydraulic engineers. Led by Dr. Hakim Bachir, a researcher and recognized expert in agriculture and sustainable development, this training aimed to enhance the skills of professionals in the socio-economic agricultural sector.
Training Objectives:
Pesticide Reduction: Promote agricultural practices that limit the use of chemicals to preserve the environment and public health.
Efficient Use of Inputs: Optimize the use of agricultural resources to increase productivity while minimizing environmental impact.
Water Economy / Irrigation: Implement innovative irrigation techniques for sustainable water resource management, crucial in Saharan contexts.
Water Quality: Ensure the monitoring and maintenance of water quality in agriculture to guarantee healthy food production.
This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to promote sustainable Saharan agriculture in Algeria. It aims to equip agricultural professionals with the necessary tools to tackle current environmental and economic challenges under the RAF5091 project, in collaboration with the IAEA.
Dr. Bachir emphasized the importance of such training sessions in modernizing the agricultural sector and encouraging the adoption of innovative methods adapted to Saharan climatic conditions. Participants expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the training and their intent to apply the acquired knowledge in their respective projects.
This training reflects Algeria’s commitment to strengthening the capacities of its agricultural professionals, contributing to food security and the country’s sustainable development.
